Harcon Corporation Completes Brazier and Firewood Placement
June 9, 2003 --
Harcon Corporation of Paradise, PA completed placement of 25 braziers and cordwood atop the disused bridge piers between Columbia and Wrightsville, in preparation for "Flames Across the Susquehanna", the June 28th commemoration of the burning of the bridge. Their crew of 5 men used a pontoon boat, ladder and ropes, along with plenty of backbreaking effort to complete the job in just two days. Harcon, which specializes in bridge access services, rigging and scaffolding was well suited to the job. A small group of volunteers from Rivertownes PA USA spent several days clearing debris and brush from the tops of the piers and then supporting Harcon from both shores of the river.
